When I first came to Canada about 14 years ago I fell in love with its
magnificent nature. I was also inspired by the urban environment of Vancouver
where I lived at the time. Being from Germany and having travelled in Europe,
Thailand, Mexico, the US and Canada as well as having lived in Berlin for
a short period, I really came to appreciate the proximity of nature here
on the west coast.
While in Vancouver, I attended Simon Fraser University and got a BA in Communications
and Fine Arts. It was then that I got interested in a career involving technology
and art. I went on to Vancouver Film School to complete a certificate in
New Media. It was a fast paced and very creative environment that taught
me not to be afraid of computers. I also learned how to learn and where
to look for information when I need it. After graduation I started a job
as webmaster in Vancouver where I learned to apply my skills to real life
projects.
After I met my husband and we decided to buy a house it became clear that
a move to Nanaimo made sense for us. Since we moved here we had two boys
who are now four and seven. I have been working as a freelance web and graphic
designer for a number of clients around BC and beyond.
I am tri-lingual (German, English and French). I completed a bank apprenticeship
in Germany and have a degree in business, English and French from a German
university.
